Unimaginable scenes as Baltimore bridge collapses

The tranquil waters of Baltimore's Patapsco River turned tumultuous in the early hours of Tuesday following a catastrophic event that shook the city to its core. The aftermath of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse has left a community reeling, with one confirmed fatality and six individuals still missing as rescue efforts persist amid harrowing conditions.

The calamity unfolded when a mammoth container ship lost power, careening into the Francis Scott Key Bridge on the US East Coast. The impact tore through the bridge's supports, sending vehicles and people plummeting into the frigid river below. In the chaos that ensued, heroes emerged as authorities swiftly responded, managing to halt traffic on the bridge, averting further catastrophe. However, the toll was already significant, with one individual confirmed dead and six others, believed to be part of a construction crew, still unaccounted for.

As the day wore on, Baltimore City Fire Department Chief James Wallace provided updates on the situation, indicating that one survivor had been rescued and rushed to a local trauma centre in critical condition. Meanwhile, the US Coast Guard initiated a relentless search for the missing individuals, leveraging sonar technology to scour the depths of the river.

The vessel responsible for the devastation, known as the Dali, was under the management of Synergy Marine Group, navigating under the Singapore flag. Although the crew and pilots were reported safe, the repercussions of the collision have reverberated far beyond the immediate vicinity. US President Joe Biden has pledged federal support for the reconstruction efforts: "This is going to take some time," he said. "The people of Baltimore can count on us, though, to stick with them at every step of the way until the port is reopened and the bridge is rebuilt."

The collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge not only claimed lives but also severed a vital link in the region's infrastructure. The Port of Baltimore, a bustling gateway for maritime commerce, now faces significant disruption, with vessel traffic suspended indefinitely. The reverberations of this tragedy extend beyond Baltimore, with logistical challenges expected to ripple along the entire East Coast.

As the day progressed, stories of resilience and compassion emerged. Retired Chief Donald Heinbuch, startled from his sleep by the rumbling impact, bore witness to the unimaginable destruction. "Never would you think that you would see physically see the Key Bridge tumble down like that - it looked like something out of an action movie," he said. "And you just think about, most importantly, which is what we all should be thinking about right now, nothing but those families and people that are impacted and those people who are risking their lives right now, for not just Baltimore City and Baltimore County but all over the state, to try to save lives. That should be our focus - the preservation of life. Because no one wants to see that happen, let alone someone in their family someone that they know, be injured in an incident like this."

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott echoed the sentiments of a community in shock, emphasising the paramount importance of preserving life above all else.

Images: Streamlive | 9News

"I was angry": Julia Morris comes clean about Dr Chris Brown's departure

We are all well aware that Dr Chris Brown, beloved former co-host of the jungle rollercoaster known as I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, bid farewell to the show last year. Host Julia Morris, renowned for her vivacious wit and boundless charm, recently shed some light on her inner turmoil when her long-time partner in jungle antics decided to hop over to rival network Seven.

The departure of Chris, after nine glorious seasons of quips and critters, left Julia in a state of bewilderment. "I was shocked," Morris told Yahoo! News. "I was angry, but I was also fine because it's what my friend needed to do. It was a super confusing time."

Morris then faced the daunting prospect of finding a new partner-in-crime; enter Robert Irwin, the youthful wildlife enthusiast and heir to the Crocodile Hunter legacy. After a rigorous audition process involving around six Aussie personalities, Robert emerged as the chosen one. Julia described the moment as if the clouds parted, and a celestial spotlight shone down on young Irwin. "Everybody dissolved immediately and everybody knew it," Julia recounted.

Now, the burning question on everyone's minds: Will Julia be just as flirtatious with the sprightly 20-year-old Irwin as she was with Chris? On that matter, Julia has remained coy: "I don't know how and why it's already working so beautifully." she teased.

Julia also reassures us that she and Robert have already formed a bond akin to that of two koalas clinging to the same eucalyptus tree. "Now we have fun. I'm learning along the way from Robert, which is fantastic," she gushed. And thus, a new era dawns in the jungle, where critters roam, celebrities squirm and Julia Morris reigns supreme as the queen of quips and camaraderie.

Image: Network 10

Dr Chris Brown recalls embarrassing moment on crowded train

Dr Chris Brown tends to attract attention wherever he goes with his 6'5 height and beautiful blond hair - but he got more than he wanted on his recent trip to Japan.

Appearing on the morning radio show Triple M’s Mick and MG in the Morning Show, he recalled an embarrassing incident that he would rather forget.

“It may not surprise you to learn that I do tend to stand out a little bit on the streets of Tokyo,” he began, to the amusement of radio host Mick Molloy.

“Um, six foot five, blond hair, and on the subway especially.

“But, I don’t know if you know, in Japan you can buy beers absolutely anywhere — vending machines on the streets, in the subway when you’re just queueing for a train, and so I got involved in this.

“I bought a can of Asahi, nice Japanese beer, and was carrying it in my bag, just over my shoulder.”

As he got into the crowded train and made his way, the TV vet shared that started to feel a “cold trickle” down his leg.

“I realised very quickly that the beer I’d bought had exploded in my bag,” he said.

“And I now have a rapidly growing wet patch across my groin, running from my bag to my groin and down my leg, and a highly suspicious amber fluid going across a crowded train carriage,” he continued, making everyone in the studio laugh.

“If I couldn’t stand out any more, I found a way.”

He added that nobody said a word because Japanese people are so polite, but he did say there was “endless gazing," because they thought he wet himself.

“They’re connecting the dots from the trickle along the carriage back up my leg and up to my very wet body,” he added.

“Oh wow, oh well I hope you were filming that,” Mick Molloy chuckled.

“By the way, that’s how I leave the station every day, on a train, with a wet patch, talking to myself,” he quipped.

“Well, I tell you what, if you want to clear some space, it’s a great way to do it, let me tell you,” the TV vet laughed.

Images: Mick & MG in the morning

Chris Brown's candid love life admission

Dr Chris Brown, who has stolen the hearts of many Aussies with his good looks, charm and love for animals has opened up about his love life.

In a candid interview with Stellar, the TV personality revealed that he will keep his relationships private until he knows it's strong enough to withstand speculation and online commentary.

“The challenge, really, is that it's hard enough to meet the right person, anyway,” he told the publication.

He also opened up on what it's like to date in the public eye.

“That extra layer of speculation and interest… once you're actually in a relationship it's easy, but it's meeting that person at the start that's really hard. You could potentially be on your first date and you get photographed.

“And then there’s a search for who this person is, what her backstory is, and then all of a sudden, it becomes something that it may not be that stage.”

The former I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! host added that it's easy to get into a “cycle”, which is “so bizarre it’s almost amusing”.

In a previous interview with Stellar, he also said that he was "certainly looking for the one" and that his younger self would be "horrified" if he knew that he is still unmarried and without kids.

“But it's my doing. I’ve probably prioritised work more than I potentially should have over the past 10 years – to the detriment of my personal life,” he added.

The beloved TV vet also said that he is looking for a serious relationship: "I don’t want to be this person with a history of short to medium-term relationships.”

While Chris is known for keeping his love life private, he has had a few relationships in the past.

In 2014 he was romantically linked to Bondi-based project manager Hannah Thomas and Home and Away actress Kassandra Clementi.

In late 2016, he dated TV producer Kendall Bora, who he was with for two years. Bora has since tied the knot with Weekend Sunrise host Matt Doran.

In 2018 he reportedly dated Liv Phyland for a year, before eventually calling it quits although they remain "really good friends" according to Women's Day.

He was most recently linked to luxury magazine founder, Brooke Meredith, although they rarely made a public appearance together and reportedly split in late 2022.

Images: Instagram

Darryl Somers jumps the gun with major Dr Chris Brown announcement

Darryl Somers, the man who made Dancing with the Stars a glittering extravaganza of dance and dazzling outfits, has decided to take centre stage once again.

After months of speculation about Dr Chris Brown taking over the hosting reins, Somers took it upon himself to make a rogue announcement on his Facebook page that was about as expected as a cha-cha-cha in a tango.

Rumours have been swirling for some time now about Channel Seven's big reveal, scheduled for their upfronts event, a time when media executives and TV buffs gather to find out what fresh television delights are in store. But Somers, always one to seize the spotlight, decided to drop the bombshell himself.

"Hi All, Just want to confirm the speculation that I will not be hosting Dancing With The Stars in 2024. Seven let me know recently that they have signed Chris Brown to the network full-time, and amongst his commitments, he will be hosting DWTS," Somers wrote on Facebook.

In a heartfelt message, Somers went on to share his gratitude for the 20-year journey he's had with Dancing with the Stars, dating back to 2004. He's completed ten series, with his last one being a "huge ratings success". And what better way to pass the torch than with a mirror ball, the symbol of dancefloor triumph, presented personally by Somers to Chris Brown.

Somers also expressed his fondness for his co-host, Sonia Kruger, and the judges, Todd McKenney and Mark Wilson. It seems that while he will miss the sequins and glitter, he's "now unencumbered to pursue the projects [he] put on hold during Covid and shall have some exciting news on that score early next year." We can't wait to find out what Somers has hidden up his well-tailored sleeves.

But let's not forget the man of the hour: Dr Chris Brown. Not only will he be grooving to the tunes of Dancing with the Stars, but he's also going to be hosting a brand new show titled Dream Home. It's not about dreaming of a dream home; it's about couples turning a run-down shack into a palace, all while winning some cold hard cash. If we know Brown, he's probably going to charm the participants into renovating their homes with just a smile and a stethoscope.

Before all of this unfolded, there was speculation that Brown might take over for Kochie when he retired from Sunrise after 21 years – but of course that Big Chair went to Olympian Matt Shirvington.

In the world of Australian television, the tango of hosting changes continues, with Somers' premature announcement adding an unexpected twist. It seems that even after 20 years of dancing with the stars, you can still surprise everyone with a perfectly timed leap and a graceful pirouette into the unknown.

Images: Instagram

No more brown leaves: sage advice from a gardening expert

We’ve all been there before. We’re watering our seemingly healthy houseplant when suddenly there it is: a tinge of brown on the plant’s leaf. Yikes. But what do brown tips on leaves mean for your plant, and what can you do to make them go away? Read on to find out.

Lack of water or humidity

If your plant is sporting crispy, dark, or brown tips on its leaves, it may mean you need to water more often. Check the soil moisture and slowly reduce the number of days in between watering. Watch your plants for signs of improvement.

Lack of humidity could also be the cause. Tropical plants prefer higher humidity levels than we have in our homes. When we turn on the heat in winter, there’s even less moisture in the air. Group plants together so that as one loses moisture through its leaves, the neighbours benefit. Or place plants on saucers or trays filled with pebbles and water. Set a pot on the pebbles above the water. As the water evaporates, it will increase the humidity around the plant, where it is needed.

Lack of nutrients

A lack of key nutrients may be behind the brown tips on leaves of your plant. Burned-looking leaf tips, or old leaves with dark green or reddish-purplish colouring, may indicate a phosphorus deficiency. With a potassium deficiency, you may see yellow or brown along older leaf tips and edges, yellowing between veins, curling leaves, or spotting.

For potted plants, add a slow-release type of fertiliser to the soil mix before planting. Every time you water, a little fertiliser is released, providing a steady flow of nutrients. But depending on the growing conditions and number of plants in the container, a midseason boost may be needed. Stay on top of your fertiliser applications by making notes on a calendar.

This article originally appeared on Reader's Digest.

The “prime contender” for Dr Chris Brown’s replacement on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here has been revealed by Channel 10 insiders.

The source told Daily Mail Australia that Sam Pang is in the running to join Julia Morris as the co-host of the reality television show, following the celebrity vet’s shock departure.

While Dr Chris has long been a fan favourite with his charismatic charm, one network spy said, “Pang could provide a fresh spin on the popular reality show with his comedic genius”, saying he is the “prime contender to fill the big boots left behind” by the dashing vet.

Pang, best known for his witty retorts and deadpan humour on Have You Been Paying Attention?, seems ready to trade in the studio for the wild world of the jungle.

“Our viewers love a good laugh and Sam's knack for making even the most serious situations hilarious is just what we need to bring a new dynamic to the show,” the source added.

The news of Dr Chris’ replacement comes after Julia Morris told Yahoo Lifestyle! that the show will go in a “completely different way” following the departure of her co-host after they shared the screen for almost a decade.

She also admitted she is testing her “chemistry” with potential candidates for the highly sought after role.

“I'm going to have to leave everything of the past behind,” the 55-year-old told the publication.

“Whoever comes in is going to want to build that together,” Julia went on.

“So there's plenty of space for that person, we're just looking forward to finding out who that's going to be.”

“Whoever that person is is going to have a huge effect on whether I'm working over the next few years, so I want it to work,” she said.

Dr Chris Brown and Julia Morris open up on final show together

This season of I’m A Celeb has been jam-packed with drama, but it’s also marking the exit of co-host Dr Chris Brown after it was revealed he was switching networks from Ten to Seven by the time the season airs.

Speaking to Brown and Julia Morris ahead of the show’s highly-anticipated finale, news.com.au reported that his longtime co-host was struggling to wrap her head around his departure.

“I’m just sad in my heart,” she said.

“I think I’m still in shock, and in a very healthy way, I’ve decided to completely ignore it in my brain. This series has felt even more fun than usual, so I’m just not allowing my brain to click over to the fact it won’t be in this incarnation anymore.”

Brown’s move between networks has been unusually prolonged by TV standards, and he said it had been bittersweet to have one last hoorah in the jungle before he bids it farewell.

“It’s definitely been [difficult], and that’s been because I love the show so much. It’s been hard to count down how many shows you have left, and realise it’s the last time you do this or that,” he confessed.

“But it’s allowed me to treasure every single day I’ve had over here. It’s also given the entire crew the chance to crack jokes about it.”

“If it’s laughing or crying, which one do you want to do?” Morris teased.

Brown named former netball star Liz Ellis as this season’s natural leader, saying that other contestants “go to a trial and their motivation is they don’t want to let down Liz … it’s quite funny.”

Below Deck reality star Aesha Scott, who has risen in fame since appearing on the show has reportedly been one of the season’s biggest surprise packages.

“She’s been a revelation. Her energy, her humour, her determination to keep everyone entertained at every possible opportunity, and her open-mouthed silent laughing, would’ve been a big surprise for many people,” Brown said.

Brown and Morris have had a front-show seat for the extensive drama seen this season, particularly with Kerri-Anne Kennerley’s feud with Domenica Calarco leading to her abrupt exit.

During the confrontation between Dom and KAK the cameras cut to the hosts looking uncomfortable at best.

“In fact, it was the face of someone who realised they’ve got the front row seat to a true reality TV moment … and they’re dressed in comical tennis gear,” he said.

Viewers noted that there was a snippet of the confrontation before the show later cut to KAK tearfully telling her fellow jungle-goers that she had quit, but there was no content shown of what happened in the middle.

Brown added that there was “silence” among the crew as everyone tried to process what had happened.

“Kerri-Anne was pretty clear – well, abundantly clear – about how she felt. We’re not about trying to change people’s minds. We had to mediate to a certain extent, and make sure everyone felt OK.”

Brown and Morris have appeared to be much more nurturing towards the campers than hosts on other shows and Morris explained that it was an important aspect, emphasising cohesion over conflict.

“The contestants are in the jungle for a long time, so to much making fun of them doesn’t go well. They become less seen to do trials and less keen to even see us in camp, which is not a nice feeling,” she said.

The attitudes of the hosts paired with the bizarre humour has been a winning combination since the show’s debut in 2015.

Morris revealed it was difficult to think about replacing her beloved co-host.

“Chris and I, people think they know what this combination is and why it [works], but not even we’re really sure why that frisson is so great. How am I going to find a person who fills all that criteria?” she asked.

“I really have someone special in mind, and I don’t want to blow it,” she revealed. “I’m hoping I can coax Dr Chris Brown over from Channel 7.”

That’s like saying Mr Whippy’s gonna come and take over my job, like come on man, that’s ridiculous.”

When pushed for a clue as to who his replacement might be, Kochie told the hosts that there is “plenty of great talent working on Sunrise”.

“Look, to use football parlance, I’ve talked to the list managers, it’s time for the next generation to come through and they've got a lot to choose from,” he said.

“All will be revealed next Monday, and then I leave on Friday.”

Kochie also shared he won’t be moving back to his hometown of Adelaide when he finishes up with Sunrise.

“I will stay here in Sydney,” he said. “Our kids are here, grandkids are here, and our family business is here.”

In a statement from Channel Seven Kochie explained that he believes it’s time to change his routine after spending 21 years of waking up at the crack of dawn.

“I know I'm going to miss it enormously, but it's time for me to work business hours, and for (his wife) Libby and I to have a bit more flexibility to enjoy our burgeoning family, to travel and focus on our family business interests in Pinstripe Media and the Ausbiz business channel,” he said.

“As everyone knows, I'm a finance nerd so you'll still see me pop up every so often on RBA board meeting days or covering other big financial news, but as a guest rather than host.

“Coming up to 20 consecutive years as Australia's most-watched breakfast show is a nice moment to exit stage left with an enormous sense of pride and gratitude. Thank you for the privilege.”

Sarah Harris opens up about Dr Chris Brown dating rumours

The Project host Sarah Harris has denied allegations she is dating Dr Chris Brown.

The 41-year-old, who announced her split from ex-husband Tom Ward in March 2021, was roasted about the rumours on The Kyle and Jackie O Show on May 8.

Radio hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O weren’t convinced by the reports so they called up Harris live on air to get some answers.

"Oh, my God, you two!” said Harris after picking up the phone, evidently caught off guard.

When asked if she was “sleeping with” the Bondi Vet star, 44, the journalist said, “No!”

“You know my aunt called and checked as well. No, it's hogwash,” she said, adding that she had “no idea” where the tabloids got their claims from.

“I haven't even had my second coffee yet, you two,' Sarah laughed. “I'm too busy and boring [for this].”

Brown has remained silent about the rumours. Kyle and Jackie O did attempt to call him on air, but he didn’t answer.

The I’m a Celebrity host, who dated TV presenter Roz Kelly in 2012 and actress Kassandra Clementi in 2014, is renowned for keeping his love life out of the public eye.

His last relationship was with influencer Brooke Meredith from 2020 to 2022.

Speaking to the Something to Talk About podcast in April 2023, Brown revealed he prefers not to subject his love life to public scrutiny.

“The challenge is that it's hard enough to meet the right person anyway,” he explained.

“That extra layer of speculation and interest… once you're actually in a relationship it's easy, but it's meeting that person at the start that's really hard.”

Brown, who quit Channel 10 and will transition to Seven Network in July, shared that media speculation about his romantic interests is “funny” to him, but can take a toll on his loved ones.

Meanwhile, Harris announced her split from IT specialist husband Tom Ward in March 2021, after seven years of marriage.

The former couple share custody of sons Paul, seven, and Harry, five.

Pope Francis hospitalised

Pope Francis, 86, was hospitalised in Rome's Gemelli hospital on Wednesday with a respiratory infection that requires him to remain under observation for a few days.

"In recent days Pope Francis has complained of some breathing difficulties," Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said in a statement.

The pope was taken to hospital for medical checkup, which then revealed the respiratory infection.

Bruni added that tests have shown it was not Covid, but the infection “will require a few days of appropriate hospital medical treatment".

“Pope Francis is touched by the many messages received and expresses his gratitude for the closeness and prayer,” Bruni added.

The statement comes after the Italian media questioned whether the pope was unexpectedly hospitalised, or if he actually went for a scheduled checkup, as a TV interview scheduled with the pope Wednesday afternoon had been cancelled at the last minute.

Earlier that day, the pope appeared to be in good spirits as he greeted the general audience at the Vatican in his popemobile.

A Vatican source has also confirmed that the pope’s activities on Thursday were cancelled, and others were likely to follow, in what is his busiest period with Easter Sunday coming up on April 9.

Pope Francis has had part of his lungs removed in his early 20s after almost dying when he developed pleurisy, so he is generally more exposed to respiratory problems.

He also suffers from diverticulitis, which is a condition that can infect or inflame pouches in the digestive tract, and has had surgery for it in 2021.

In January, he said that the condition had returned and did not elaborate further.

The pope also has a problem with his knee, which has led him to cancel or limit activities last year and alternates between using a cane and a wheelchair in public.

Despite all of his health issues, the pope has said that he has no plans to resign soon, unless his health deterred him from doing his job.

Image: Getty

Outrage over Craig McLachlan’s TV return

Christie Whelan Browne has condemned the decision to put Craig McLachlan back in the limelight as part of the 2023 cast for SAS Australia.

The series, which has been known to give its cast members ‘redemption arcs’, has faced criticism in the past for highlighting the likes of Wayne Carey and Sam Burgess.

And now Browne - who accused McLachlan of sexually assaulting her during their theatre performances run - has taken to Twitter to voice her disgust at his return to television, asking the question, “how do we feel about someone who was charged on multiple sexual assault charges being put back on tv and being referred to simply as a ‘controversial figure’?

“I also saw a post saying he was the ‘winner’ of that case. But if you bother to read the judgement- he was acquitted on a technicality and the judge WHO HEARD THE EVIDENCE, believed it happened.

“I am so f***ing sick of this s**t.”

How do we feel about someone who was charged on multiple sexual assault charges being put back on tv and being referred to simply as a ‘controversial figure’?

— Christie Whelan (@Christie_Whelan) March 6, 2023

Browne’s supporters were in agreement, with many unhappy to see yet another disgraced star given a free pass back to national attention.

“SAS have a type, they gave Sam Burgess a redemption song story, now McLachlan. It's poor form, next they will give the guy from Hey dad another go, wrote one, before pleading with Channel 7 to “DO BETTER”.

“I hate it,” wrote another. “In the same way as a sportsman gets past sexual assault charges and then in a post-match interview refers to it as ‘a hard year for me. I'm just glad to be on the field doing what I do’.”

“As soon as I read the headline I knew exactly what tv show it was that he’d be appearing on,” shared one, a comment alongside dozens on how people were unsurprised at SAS Australia’s move.

McLachlan was charged in 2018 when Browne - along with two fellow female cast members - brought forward allegations of indecent assault. McLachlan was the star of their 2014 The Rocky Horror Picture Show production.

He denied the allegations against him, and was found not guilty by a magistrate in December 2020 after a criminal trial.

McLachlan has not had an acting job since the accusations were brought to light, and the SAS Australia announcement marks his return to television.

The 57-year-old was reported by The Daily Telegraph to be flying from Sydney to train with ex-special forces in preparation for his time on the challenging reality series.

The 2023 season has been declared to have a gruelling training regime that is set to have its participants “sweating bullets”.

The mission statement for the 2023 season says the training regime will have the cast “sweating bullets”.

McLachlan will be joined by convicted drug smuggler ‘cocaine Cassie’ Sainsbury, former world boxing champ Anthony Mundine, Thai cave rescue hero Dr Craig Challen, Brownlow medallist Jason Akermanis, model Lindy Klim, and Olympians Stephanie Rice, Peter Bol, and Matthew Mitcham.

Footy commentator Abbey Holmes, former reality TV star Tim Robards, actor Zima Anderson, retired NRL star Boyd Cordner, and rugby star Mahalie Murphy will also be joining the crew for the 2023 season.

Images: Instagram

“All power to him”: Amanda Keller reveals why Chris Brown is jumping ship

After Dr Chris Brown announced his departure from Channel Ten to join rival network Channel Seven, his former Living Room co-star spoke candidly about the situation on WSFM’s Jonesy & Amanda, while delivering a dig to the network.

Brown’s career move has come after 15 years at Channel Ten, with his time at Seven set to begin on July 1. Chris will still star alongside friend and co-host Julia Morris for 2023’s I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! before departing for the rival network.

Chris is only one on a list of notable TV personalities to jump ship from Ten, with fellow The Project hosts Carrie Bickmore, Lisa Wilkinson, and Peter Helliar already having severed ties.

It is reported that Chris’ new contract is worth a staggering $1m a year for two years.

“Chris Brown has provided Australians with warmth and compassion as the resident vet on Bondi Vet, treating animals large and small,” said a 10 spokesperson. “He has served up a multitude of uplifting, inspiring and hilarious stories with Amanda, Barry and Miguel on The Living Room couch and Chris, along with Julia Morris is contracted to the upcoming season of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! which will be back on screens and back in the South African jungle in April.”

And now Keller, who co-starred with Brown on Ten’s The Living Room before the award-winning program was “rested” for 2023, said the network’s unwillingness to renew the lifestyle show for this year was a “risk”.

In October, Keller had revealed the cast was “sad” to be taking a break from the show, and that it was a network decision to temporarily halt filming.

“I said at the time, this is the risk you take as a network. None of us are on contracts, they haven’t rested the show and retained us on contract,” Keller said today on WSFM’s Jonesy & Amanda.

“So as Chris said, ‘I’m working one month a year on television’,” Keller said.

“In terms of television, he’s doing I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here, which pretty much goes for a month, and then he has 11 months where he’s looking for a TV project.”

Keller also gave more details about what Brown will tackle once he moves to Seven.

“He’s got ideas for his own programs and Channel 7 have said come and do it over here and all power to him,” Keller said.

“Why would Chris not jump somewhere where he’s offered a variety of work for a year?”

Chris launched his television career with Channel Seven, starring on Harry’s Practice and putting his skill as a vet to the test in 2003. The role earned him a Logie Award nomination for “Most Popular New Talent”.

Of Chris’ return to the network, Seven West Media CEO James Warburton said, “we are very pleased to welcome Chris back to Seven. It’s been too long.

“Chris is one of the most popular and recognised people on Australian TV, bringing warmth, intelligence and a great sense of humour to everything he does. We can’t wait to have him on board and to announce the great new content he will star in.”

Images: TV Tonight / Getty Images

The doctor is OUT: Chris Brown changes the script

Dr Chris Brown has announced that he will be exiting Channel Ten to join rival network Channel Seven.

The move comes after 15 years at Channel Ten for Chris, with his time at Seven set to begin on July 1. In 2010, Chris joined The Project as a guest panelist, and in 2012 added The Living Room to his resume as a co-host.

The Living Room was put on hiatus after 10 years on the air, a decision that disappointed both Chris and his fellow hosts.

Details of these projects have not been made public yet, but audiences can rest assured that Chris will be giving them his all, sharing his excitement for what lies ahead in his statement, “I’m not entirely sure my old access pass works but once we get over that hurdle and I’m back from the jungle, I can’t wait to sink my teeth into some exciting new projects in the second half of the year and beyond with Seven.”

Images: Getty

Why does my plant have brown tips on the leaves?

A healthy philodendron plant with green leaves

“I am one of the group”: Francis Coppola reflects as ‘The Godfather’ turns 50

American writer and director Francis Ford Coppola has made dozens of films and gone on to win five Academy Awards and six Golden Globes, but The Godfather may just be his crowning achievement.

With the first film in the trilogy celebrating its 50th anniversary, the acclaimed director shared the dramatic effects its success had on his life in an exclusive interview with Empire magazine.

“Well, it’s odd, of course. To think that 50 years has gone by since the adventure of The Godfather, and when that changed my life so dramatically,” he told the publication.

“Because now the Coppola family is considered synonymous with [the film by] many people, [but] when I came to LA, to UCLA Film School, I just dreamed to get a peek inside a studio.

“Movies were an exotic fairyland.”

While making the film and in the leadup to its initial release, Coppola was under financial pressure to support his wife and kids. But, its debut in 1972 - prompting lengthy queues just to buy tickets - saw Coppola’s fortunes change drastically.

“I went from having zero money at all and a family to support, to having several million dollars, which was astonishing,” he recalled.

“No one in my family had that kind of money. I went from being unknown and poor with a lot of family responsibilities - I was married young and I loved my kids and my family - to having some money and acclaim. I was famous, everyone knew about The Godfather and everyone knew about me.”

Though The Godfather certainly provided Coppola with fame and wealth, the 82-year-old says it gave him something else he had always wanted: a sense of belonging.

“The way I look at it, I always wanted to be one of the group,” he said.

“As first, I was an outsider, and I wasn’t included in the group because I was a new kid, or I was poor. Then I became famous, and a success, so I still wasn’t one of the group.

“In my heart, all I ever really wanted was to be considered one of the group, which I am now because when they talk about all the big directors of the ‘70s, they say George Lucas and Francis Coppola and Marty Scorsese and Steven Spielberg and Brian De Palma and Paul Schrader.

“So I have what I want - I am one of the group.”

Trailer for the 50th anniversary of Francis Ford Coppola's masterpiece ‘The Godfather’, which will be released in select theatres on February 25 pic.twitter.com/7vgsBADsF1
— Lost In Film (@LostInFilm) January 13, 2022

To celebrate the film’s milestone, Paramount Pictures and Coppola’s production company American Zoetrope have restored the trilogy - which will be released in 4K Ultra HD for the first time in March this year.

“We felt privileged to restore these films and a little in awe every day we worked on them,” said Andrea Kalas, the senior vice president of Paramount Archives.

“We were able to witness first-hand how the brilliant cinematography, score, production design, costume design, editing, performances, and, of course, screenwriting and direction became famously more than the sum of their parts.

“It was our commitment to honour all of the filmmakers’ exceptional work.”

The Godfather 50th Anniversary will be released in select cinemas from February 25, 2022.

Image: Vivien Killilea (Getty Images) / Silver Screen Collection (Getty Images)
